Specifications in an Arbitrary Institution

چکیده
A formalism for constructing and using axiomatic specifications in an arbitrary logical system is presented. This builds on the framework provided by Goguen and Burstall’s work on the notion of an institution as a formalisation of the concept of a logical system for writing specifications. We show how to introduce free variables into the sentences of an arbitrary institution and how to add quantitiers which bind them. We use this foundation to define a set of primitive operations for building specifications in an arbitrary institution based loosely on those in the ASL kernel specification language. We examine the set of operations which results when the definitions are instantiated in institutions of total and partial tirst-order logic and compare these with the operations found in existing specification languages. We present proof rules which allow proofs to be conducted in specifications built using the operations we define. Finally, we introduce a simple mechanism for defining and applying parameterised specifications and briefly discuss the program development process. 1 1988 Academic Press. Inc.

Behavioural Semantics of Algebraic Specifications in Arbitrary Logical Systems
Behavioural semantics for specifications plays a crucial role in the formalization of the developments process, where a specification need not to be implemented exactly but only so that the required system behaviour is achieved. There are two main approaches to the definition of behavioural semantics: the internal one (called behavioural semantics) and external one (called abstractor semantics)...
متن کاملModularity of Ontologies in an Arbitrary Institution
The notion of module extraction has been studied extensively in the ontology community. The idea is to extract, from a large ontology, those axioms that are relevant to certain concepts of interest (formalised as a subsignature). The technical concept used for the definition of module extraction is that of inseparability, which is related to indistinguishability known from observational specifi...
متن کاملComposition of Default Specifications
In this paper we develop a theory of composition of default specifications. This theory generalizes the work by Goguen and Burstall, where specifications written in an arbitrary logical system (institution) are structured as combinations of theories. It extends the classical composition by allowing partial re-use (and overriding) of specification modules. The modularisation units are hierarchic...
متن کاملWellbore Trajectory Optimization of an Iranian Oilfield Based on Mud Pressure and Failure Zone
Determination of the borehole and fracture initiation positions is the main aim of a borehole stability analysis. A wellbore trajectory optimization with the help of the mud pressure may be unreasonable since the mud pressure can only reflect the degree of difficulty for the initial damage to occur at the wellbore rather than the extent of the wellbore damage. In this work, we investigate...
متن کاملObservational Logic
We present an institution of observational logic suited for state-based systems specifications. The institution is based on the notion of an observational signature (which incorporates the declaration of a distinguished set of observers) and on observational algebras whose operations are required to be compatible with the indistinguishability relation determined by the given observers. In parti...
